"The name Pamphilon can be found as far back in time as the year BC 350 when one Pamphilus is recorded as being a great painter. Another suffered in AD 309, he being a man of profound learning with regard to the Scriptures and Christian writings. It is also possible that the name could have originated from the region of Pamphylia, located along the southern coast of modern Turkey."

Ned Pamphilon Productions August 2008

NPP is the production of artworks, ideas and activities of English artist Ned Pamphilon. The paintings of Ned Pamphilon are held in private and public collections from Texas to Kuala Lumpur. Born in 1963, he graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in architecture then spent several years working as a nightclub DJ in Soho, London while performing with a rock band and undertaking photographic and bit-part roles in TV, film and commercials. As painting became his primary career commissions, exhibitions and projects took place in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Uganda, Texas, New York, Paris, London and Kuala Lumpur. He first visited Turkey in 1988 and in later years became increasingly more involved with the country and the Turkish people.

In June 1999, collaborating with Adnan & Hasan of Halıcılar Caddesi and sponsor Mogaz, NPP staged a first ever contemporary art exhibition within the Kapalicarsi - Grand Bazaar. NPP’s concept Istanbul? Yeah! presented bright, colourful and vibrant images promoting Istanbul and Turkey to the home domestic audience and international market. Later the same year NPP continued to promote its visions of Istanbul at one of the newest venues, Mayadrom Gift & Gormet in Akatlar, presenting Mayadrom? Yeah! This was followed in November 1999 by an exhibition of portraits of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Ataturk Smiles! at The Marmara Taksim.

S.T.F.A. Holding A.S. then commissioned portraits of company founders Sezai Turkes and Feyzi Akkaya while Turkish textile producers commissioned Where East Meets West for Dutch textile company Coltex. Clients and collaborations went on to include Alkas Marketing, Yapi Markezi Inşaat, Koray Inşaat, The Marmara Hotel Business Centre, Bericap Turkiye, Gebze Chamber of Commerce, Bobrek Vakfi Hastanesi, Coca-Cola, Hamamcioglu Jenerator, Max and Havana restaurants, Solgar Vitamins Turkiye, TAV and Ataturk International Airport, Power Magazine, the TASK/TAY organization, Sabah Publications and Global Investments, Digiturk’s History Channel launch, Yardımcı Shipyard, The International Society of Blood Transfusion, Suzer Holding, The Ritz Carlton, and Koc Holding.

Ned first painted an Ataturk portrait in 1997, which was the start of many Ataturk portraits for various private and business clients. These include Ataturk’s Eyes at Mayadrom Sports Centre in Etiler and the 3.5m x 2m Ataturk Gulumsuyor (Ataturk Smiles) installed at The Lutfi Kirdar International Conference & Exhibition Centre.

An appearance on the Zaga Kanal D show in 2003 led to 100,000 hits to website www.nedpamphilon.com in support of NPP’s most ambitious goal yet: The Rainbow Bridge Peace Project. In 2004 NPP secured the sponsorship of BASF while Cem Ceminay, Cahit Akyol, Leyla Umar and Gila Benmayor were among supporters within the Turkish media. In 2005 NPP took its painting station to Maltepe University, Tepe Nautilus Carrefour, The British Consulate, Lutfi Kirdar ICEC, Moda Sea Club, Divan Palmira Bodrum and promoted Deniz Temiz. NPP image Ataturk’s Eyes II adorned the advertising screens atop The Marmara Taksim and Pera hotels to commemorate Turkish national days 29 October and 10 November.

In 2006 NPP exhibited at Adam Street Club London under the title of Peace at Home, Peace in the World then back to Istanbul to show Yurtta Sulh Cihanda Sulh at TUGIAD (The Young Turkish Businessman’s Association) as part of their 20th anniversary celebrations. Ataturk Gulumsemek was donated to the Istanbul Police Department commemorating its 161st anniversary; NPP celebrated 23 April Children's Day with students at Istanbul TED Koleji; painted the garage walls with staff at The Marmara Pera hotel; painted with children and staff of project sponsor BASF at Gelecegimizin Cokcuklari Vakfi school and hostel. Despite several attempts neither www.nedpamphilon.com nor www.istanbul7.com were fully completed so NPP reverted to blogging: www.nedpamphilon.blogspot.com

In 2007 NPP started the Learning Turkish project, painted a wall in Cihangir with members of the public to commemorate 23 April Children's Day, produced 3 cows for Tepe Nautilis as part of the Istanbul Cow Parade and produced the Marmaris? Yeah! exhibition at Netsel Marmaris Marina.

In 2008 NPP produced the Think! Dusun! exhibition with Gallery Art & Life before relocating back to the UK. An exhibition at a local countryside village hall titles Coney Weston, Istanbul and Back? Yeah! was a reintroduction of NPP back home.

The Rainbow Bridge peace project is always on the table when the Turkish government decides to permit implementation.

Ned Pamphilon productions can be found in private collections in Britain, Eire, France, Germany, Holland, Austria, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, Jordan, India, Pakistan, Japan, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, Ecuador, Australia and New Zealand.
